Kensington Palace Gardens Italian Garden Jan 2012 portfolioThe Italian garden in Kensington Palace Gardens was created by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It is situated at the North end of the Long Water (or Serpentine) which is the artificial lake created by Queen Caroline. The Fountains are situated at the point where the River Westbourne (one of the Lost Rivers of London) enters the Kensington Palace Gardens.
The Fountains have recently been renovated, and notable among the refurbished fountains is one at the very end of the gardens, which now plays most impressively, for many years it only managed a faint half-hearted dribble.
As the light was good I took a lot of photos of this fountain. I also took some photos of the area around the Long Water which also looked particularly attractive in the Winter light.

London Royal Parks Autumn 2011 portfolioI woke to find a certain mistiness in the air, and rushed off to the parks. The amount of mist was very variable, the mist present when I arrived had cleared by the time I reached the bridge over the lake, then, suddenly, it all rolled back again! After about half an hour it cleared again, and there was a further hour or so of clear weather before it clouded over and the light went for most of the rest of the day.

Holland Park (London) Early Autumn 2010 portfolioThere was a great morning to Sept 25th 2010, so I took my shopping on a photo trip around Holland Park. I was lucky enough to be able to get some good 'Forest Floor' scenes, something that tends to elude me. I was also able to get some good photos of the Holland Park Sundial, one of those subjects that seem to be really difficult (for various reasons) to do well.
I hope you enjoy these photos.

London St James's Park, Pelicans, The Mall - February 2011 portfolioThese are photos of the St James's Park pelicans which displayed themselves rather nicely for me. R Thames
Views of the non tidal Thames; I have been visiting parts of the Thames mentioned in Jerome K Jerome's 'Three Men In A Boat', in particular I have travelled over a number of sections by 'Salter's Steamer'. I have also included pictures from the Thames Traditional Boat Show 2009 at Henley on Thames
 (Contains 55 photos)
River Thames (Oxford - Abingdon) Sept 12th 2010 portfolioI took a trip by Salters Steamers from Oxford to Abingdon and back. The light was excellent to begin with, although it became cloudier later, which created some particularly dramatic skies.

The Salters Oxford - Abingdon round trip takes about 4 hours; it runs twice daily so there is the option to stay for a while in Abingdon, returning to Oxford by the afternoon boat.
 (Contains 50 photos)
River Thames (Wallingford to Abingdon portfolioA series of views from a round trip that I made on a Salters Steamer between Wallingford and Abingdon.

The River Thames over this section is very quiet but attractive. The main features along this section are the views of the Wittenham Clumps, Clifton Hampden, and the River front at Abingdon.

The river here has a quiet beauty that I believe is typically English. It also seems to me to make a particularly pleasing slide show.

Please contact me through the web-site if you would like a slide show version of this or any other portfolio.

Thames Traditional Boat Rally (Henley - 2009) portfolioPhotos taken at the Thames Traditional Boat Rally at Henley-on-Thames in July 2009. I rather like the traditionally constructed Thames boats and there are a surprising number of them still in existence; some of them, like Alaska, (constructed 1883) are of a considerable age. Also included are a few non boat photos that caught my eye.
 (Contains 26 photos)
River Thames Goring Gap (Wallingford to Reading) portfolioI went on a Salters Steamer from Wallingford to Reading and back in order to photograph places mentioned in Jerome K Jerome's 'Three Men in a Boat'.
