London Wetland Centre Black Swan attacking Moorhen June 2011
I visited the London Wetland Centre and found one of the pair of Black Swans preening its feathers and splashing a great deal of water. One of the pair was splashing around the pool flapping its wings violently. It was also chasing the other birds in the pool, most of which flew out of the way very quickly!
One bird that was not so lucky was a moorhen. I didn't notice initially, but the swan caught it in its beak while throwing a lot of water around, and severely injured it. It was still alive, however, I wouldn't have given much for its chances. I also saw a few frogs, and some attractive wild flowers.
