This is the steam launch 'Alaska', built on the Thames in 1883 and in the Salters fleet until World War II when it was sold and speedily went into dereliction. The hull was discovered serving as a pontoon at Bossoms boatyard while the engine was being used to power a sludge pump at Kingston power station! Now, re-united and restored, the boat is back in service. Steam launches are not a common sight on the River Thames these days, and I've been asked if I can put up photos that show it making smoke. In fact it doesn't make a lot, and this is about the smokiest that it gets.
