Although working with the light on this day was not easy, there were some very attractive moments; this is the Grand Bridge.
The Grand Bridge was a part of Vanbrugh's original scheme for the palace and park, however Sarah, the first duchess, was opposed to the scheme, and stopped work before the bridge was completed. Having seen the original plan, I agree with Sarah, as it stands the bridge is spectacular and enigmatic. The bridge would have been massively over ornamented and, in my view, much less satisfying.
