Shotover Hill (Oxford) October 2007
Shotover Hill is an old royal hunting park that has come into the hands of Oxford City Council who manage it as a country park. The name is thought to derive from the French 'Chateau Vert' (Green Castle); I don't think there's any sign that there ever was a castle there!
The hill is a part of the Corallian ridge of sandstones that surrounds Oxford, it's also one of the highest points for some distance. Take your binoculars if you visit - you can see the Brill mill from Shotover.
