River Thames Reading to Henley
Views of the River Thames between Reading and Henley; I was going to go over this section on the Salters steamer, but I found when I arrived at Reading that I was a good hour before the boat left, so I walked to Henley instead and returned on the boat.
Once out of Reading the river is very attractive, particularly around Sonning. At Henley it was very busy, also very hot. I took some photos of Henley, then returned to Reading on Salters "Mary Stuart". The Thames path diverts from the River, particularly at Shiplake, so the boat is the only way to see the area below Shiplake. As the day wore on some cloud began to form and there were some dramatic cloudscapes. On returning to Sonning I caught a brief view of the church tower there, sadly I can't record the sound of the bells ringing, but the scene with the bells was idyllic!
Near to Reading there is an old pub now in use as a boat-house, although faded the name 'Simonds' Reading's famous erstwhile brewery, can still be seen.
